Indianapolis Wedding Locations – The Mansion at Oak Hill
The Mansion at Oak Hill was originally located on a 110 acre farm west of River Road on a knoll overlooking Cool Creek south of 116th Street in Carmel, Indiana. Built in approximately 1940, the house was built for an Indianapolis entrepreneur, Gerald Canfield, who owned a local manufacturing business.
In September 1990, 5,500 square feet of The Mansion was moved to its present location and quickly became one of the more popular Indianapolis wedding locations. This process included pulling and winching down a hill, crossing a specially-made bridge across Cool Creek, and going through a corn field, across River Road and under a power line. Once the home was set, renovations and 10,000 square feet were added to the south end of the home. The Mansion finally reopened in April of 1992. From there it quickly became one of my favorite Indianapolis wedding locations .
One of my favorite things about the Mansion is the elegant spiral staircase in which we photograph brides on. That feature alone makes it one of my favorite Indianapolis wedding locations .
Indianapolis Wedding Locations – Omni Sevrin Hotel
Our favorite Indianapolis wedding locations must include The Omni Severin Hotel. From opening in 1913 to the late 1930s, the Hotel Severin thrived on the 300 passenger trains that came in and out of Indianapolis daily. It was built by Henry Severin Jr. with help from the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway Founders arl G. Fisher and James A. Allison. It has been one of our favorite Indianapolis wedding locations from day one.
The immense Austrian crystal chandelier hanging in the Severin Ballroom Lobby is the original chandelier from 1913. The marble staircase is also from the original hotel. Several different owners managed the hotel until it was bought by Warren M. Atkinson in 1966. Renamed the Atkinson Hotel, the building underwent a $2.5 million renovation. Mansur Development Corporation bought the Atkinson Hotel in July 1988 and after a $40 million high profile restoration, the hotel reopened as the Omni Severin Hotel. with the renovation of the original hotel and the additional rooms, the hotel now boasts sixty different guest room configurations which add to the character and uniqueness of the property. The original 1913 mailbox still serves as the working mailbox in the hotel today. Other visible items from the original Hotel Severin are the furniture pieces located on each elevator landing of the hotel. These pieces were dressers from the guest rooms of the Hotel Severin. Today, the Omni Severin Hotel is the city’s only remaining “grand hotel” and continues to be a proud, historic landmark amidst the downtown renaissance. The Omni Severin Hotel is the oldest and longest operating hotel in downtown Indianapolis.
The ballroom is one of the more lavish of any of the Indianapolis wedding locations. The hotel is also suitable for the engagement party, bridal shower, rehearsal dinner or farewell brunch making our list of favorite Indianapolis wedding locations .
Indianapolis Wedding Locations – Columbia club
Right on Monument Circle, the Columbia Club is a private club steeped in tradition. Wedding ceremonies are held in the main lobby in front of the stained glass window and the reception can be held in one of two separate rooms.
n 1888 a contingent of Indianapolis’ most distinguished residents united their efforts to help elect Benjamin Harrison as the nation’s 23rd president, and the only Hoosier to occupy the White House.
This group, the Harrison Marching Society, welcomed all dignitaries and delegations visiting Indianapolis during the campaign. Their grand procession to Harrison’s home at 1230 North Delaware Street, where he spoke informally from his front porch, soon became the talk of the town.
The enthusiastic members of the Marching Society decided to secure a clubhouse and increase their numbers. At the suggestion of Harry S. New, one of the Club’s original subscribers and a future U.S. Senator and postmaster general, the club was renamed “Columbia” after the popular patriotic synonym for the United States. With history and tradition as its birthright, the Columbia Club was formally organized on February 13, 1889.
The club’s third and present home, a beautiful ten-story architectural showpiece located on Monument Circle, was dedicated in October 1925. The property was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in January 1983.
Because of its privacy and prestige, the Columbia Club is the gracious host for distinguished visitors from political figures to celebrities. In keeping with the Club’s origin, every Republican president since Harrison – including McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Taft, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, George H. W. Bush and George W. Bush – has visited the Club as president or candidate.
Although the Columbia Club has deep Republican roots, today’s members are diverse men and women, successful in many areas of the business and professional worlds, whose preferences lie with all parties. I have always enjoyed this as one of my favorite Indianapolis wedding locations.
Indianapolis Wedding Locations – white River Gardens at the Indianapolis Zoo
A unique venue situated just west of downtown. The Hulman Riverhouse at the Gardens provides an ideal reception location with a stunning view of downtown Indianapolis. You can combine your ceremony and reception with the latest exhibit inside the glass-enclosed Hilbert Conservatory.
A stunningly beautiful 3.3 acre landmark botanical attraction in almost the center of Indianapolis, that combines the best of gardening ideas, plant information and inspiring landscape design. Whether enjoying a spectacular exhibit in the glass-enclosed Hilbert Conservatory, collecting plant information in the Dick Crum Resource Center, learning the principles of garden design from the Polly Horton Hix Design Garden or strolling through the one and a half miles of flowered pathways in the DeHaan Tiergarten, you will be inspired, impressed, enlivened and entertained. This would be my favorite of all the outdoor Indianapolis wedding locations.
Indianapolis Wedding Locations – Indiana Roof Ballroom
The Indiana Roof Ballroom is conveniently located in downtown Indianapolis and is regarded as one of the premier Indianapolis wedding locations. The ballroom sits within the heart of the city’s convention, shopping, entertainment, and business districts. Connected via skywalk to the Embassy Suites Indianapolis Downtown, Circle Center, the Government Center, and the Indianapolis Convention Center. This unique venue specializes in ambiance, excellent service and providing a not-to-be forgotten event experience.
The Indiana Roof Ballroom accommodates many different types of events ranging in size from 50 to 1,500 people. Trade shows, auctions, fashion shows, receptions, dinners, product demonstrations and even cozy dinners for two are example of the diversity of this unforgettable facility.
The Indiana Roof Ballroom is a most unique facility and is utilized for a wealth of events. It was originally designed and built in 1927 for live music and dancing, and has hosted big-band greats, presidents, celebrities and thousands of dancers. Following a total restoration, the “Roof” has returned to its original grandeur and status as the premier special event venue in Indianapolis. I would consider the Indiana Roof Ballrom the most luxurious Indianapolis wedding locations.
Indianapolis Wedding Locations – Fountain Square Theatre
Originally built in 1928, the Fountain Square Theatre opened as a 1500 seat motion picture and vaudeville theatre. Decorated with an Italian garden theme and highlighted with a forty foot dome ceiling with twinkling stars, the theatre enjoyed many years as a premier entertainment venue. Closed and gutted in the late 1950?s the former theatre space housed a Woolworth five and dime store, then years later a thrift shop.
After extensive renovations beginning in 1994, the Fountain Square Theatre is once again transformed into a starlit courtyard. Columned arches surround an expansive dance floor at the foot of a large stage and a balcony overlooks the main level of the theatre.
The Mezzanine level of the theater retains much of its original architectural details such as stained glass windows and ornamental plaster reliefs. Truly one of the more unique Indianapolis wedding locations.
If you are looking for a unique venue to host your wedding ceremony and/or reception, a class reunion, dance, concert, or corporate function, the Fountain Square Theatre is one of the more historic Indianapolis wedding locations .
